dlr Festival of World Cultures presents all the ingredients needed for a ‘kickin’ street party, bringing you African, Brazilian and Trinidadian style performances and workshops.

12:30 – 13:30 Instant Carnival Street Band
Join facilitator Robbie Harris and the West African Drummers, in a spontaneous noisy musical celebration using anything and everything you can beat or shake! No experience necessary to join this Carnival Street Band. Bring your own drum (but there will be plenty available).

13:45 – 14:05 Capoeira Mundo
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilan art form that combines elements of martial arts, games, music and dance. The mastery and athleticism of the practice are underpinned by a strong philosphophy. This capoeira demo brings together some of the most skilled capoeira masters in Ireland. Stand back!

14:10 – 14:30 Cameroon Masquerade performed by NOWACIRE
NOWACIRE is an association of Cameroonians from the North West region of Cameroon in West Africa, who reside in the Republic of Ireland. NOWACIRE will present the traditional Njang dance mixed with some Juju (masquerade). The Njang dance is a
typical Cameroonian dance where the public witness the total jubilation created by the majestic dance moves and wavering waists of the dancers.

14:45 – 15:00 Selma Daniels Dance Company
Selma Daniels Dance Company presents Rio style carnival dance celebrating the magic of Brazil.

15:15 – 16:15 Carnival Head Dress
Join artists from CultureMix Arts (UK) to make your own customised Trinidadian-style headdress and enjoy a steel pan performance. This is a practical hands-on workshop for all ages and abilities.

16:25 – 16:45 Steel Pan Performance
Bringing alive the sounds of all the best street parties from Trinidad and Tobago to Mardis Gras, the RASPO Steel Orchestra will get you in an upbeat Bloco party tempo.
