Miss India, MC
Namrata Udani has won the prestigious title of Miss India Worldwide Ireland 2010. Namrata was selected by a panel of five Judges to represent Ireland at the Nineteenth Annual Miss India Worldwide Pageant to be held in March 2010, at the International Convention Center in Durban, South Africa. Miss India will be the MC at the Mela’s Peacock Tent; she will be there to introduce each exciting event in this area for the day.
12:00 – 12:30 Tabla Workshop (Ages: 8–12 years)
12:30 – 13:00 Tabla Workshop (Ages: 13–18 years)
In this workshop, participants will learn how to play the tabla, one of the most popular classical percussion instruments from Northern India. Learn percussion skills and have fun drumming out Indian beats with Raj Padam. Originally from the Punjab in India, Raj is a self taught tabla player, workshop facilitator and musician with Mishra and Bangsambra.

Lotus Flower Workshop (Ages: 8 – 13 years)
Lotus is the National flower of India and is considered sacred. The Lotus symbolizes spirituality, fruitfulness, knowledge and purity of heart and mind. The most important thing about lotus flowers is that even after growing in murky water they are untouched by its impurity. Children are invited to join Claire Crone to create their own beautiful lotus flower at the Mela.

Tibetan Prayer Flag Workshop (All Ages)
The Tibetans display prayer flags so that the winds (or the Horse God) will distribute their well-intentioned prayers of peace and love to all. Prayer flags are said to bring happiness, long life and prosperity to the flag planter and those in the vicinity. Enjoy creating colourful Tibetan Prayer flags with Fiona Cashell, and add your prayer flag to the Tibetan prayer flag exhibition installed in the park especially for the festival weekend, created and beautifully designed by local school children.

Children’s Bharatanatyam, Indian classical dance
Meena Purushothaman’s students from Kerala, India will perform an amazing group dance especially choreographed for the Mela. They have performed with Meena in India, Bahrain, Oman and Ireland. Make sure to include this very special performance in your must see Mela list.

Snow Lion Dance, Drepung Loseling Monastery Monks
The Snow Lion is a symbolic figure for Tibet and this particular folk dance. Audiences are invited to come and watch as the Snow Lion and the Tibetan Drepung Loseling Monastery Monks perform this traditional mountain dance – a mesmerizing and fun filled performance for all the family.

The Story of Bharatanatyam: Workshop
Usually, when we experience Bharatanatyam dance we are watching, intrigued as the dancers move gracefully, paying attention to every fascinating detail. Bharatnatyam dance is full of meanings and history that many of us are not aware of. Take this rare opportunity to learn more about the meanings of the postures and movements of this ancient Indian dance with Prerna Arya – a professional Indian Bharatanatyam and Bollywood dancer, living and studying in Ireland.
