Drepung Loseling is one of the largest monasteries in Karnataka, India, housing more than 3,000 Tibetan monks. Led by Tibetan Lama Nyendak Tulku, a group of nine monks will create a sand mandala, perform sacred chanting and spectacular music and dance performances. Dance performances will include a symbolic Tibetan Snow Lion Dance, Dakini Dance and Black Hat Dance. Tibetan Lama Nyendak will also host an Interfaith Discussion as part of the Faith Space.
In Tibetan Buddhism the chanting of prayers, as well as sutras and tantras (Buddhist teachings) or mantras such as Chenrezig’s Om Mani Padme Hum mantra of compassion – sometimes using multiphonic vocalisations – is a central aspect of monks’ spiritual practice. This special chanting performance is a highly recommended experience for all ages.
