An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Marie Baker welcomes you to the Festival
Dear Visitor
On the 9th occasion of the dlr Festival of World Cultures, I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to all those who will join us in visiting and participating in Ireland’s largest intercultural celebration.
In keeping with this year’s theme, the dlr Festival of World Cultures ‘brings the world to our doorstep’, offering both locals and visitors a fantastic weekend of music and events to suit all tastes. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the Festival’s partners, cultural institutes and organisations for their continued involvement in this valuable event, which contributes greatly to the cultural landscape of Ireland.
Along with a dynamic arts driven programme the Festival maintains a strong educational remit. With an emphasis on combating climate change our very own Environment and Culture Department brings you Cool Earth, a two day exhibition illustrating simple ways to calculate your green living options. The Festival’s workshop and talks programme for all ages and abilities ranging from dance classes and musical masterclasses to language forums and religious discussions. And in an outreach capacity the Festival’s schools and elderly projects encourage and stimulate local involvement connecting the community across all its generations.
I am proud to be part of a County Council that is so committed to delivering a well-established programme of art, music, theatre and family events, the majority of which are free and accessible to all.
Congratulations to the Festival of World Cultures team for organising such a diverse and exciting programme which I myself am looking forward to enjoying with my own family.
Have fun!
An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Marie Baker
