2ND DAY OF THE FESTIVAL… WHATS ON?!
Thinking of heading down to the dlr Festival of World Cultures? WHAT’S STOPPING YOU…?! With lots to do, see, hear and taste it’s going to be a great day for families, kids and adults. Travel the green way to Dun Laoghaire by taking the Dart or bus.
Your first port of call on arrival should be to one of the information booths to pick up a brochure, which has a map of all locations on the back. If you are looking to de-stress, head to Health & Harmony Global Therapies Fair upstairs at the Council Offices, where you can visit stands and speak with practitioners of yoga, reflexology, massage therapies and reiki. Across the road on Harbour Plaza you will find the World Dance Plaza for some Flamenco, Cameroonian, Brazilian and Salsa Dancing.
A short stroll along the waterfront will bring you to the beautiful People’s Park for Great Explorations – Around the World in a Day… Wear your best safari hat and start your expedition in the Antarctic Explorers Area. Move onto the warmer Bengal Tiger Tent for Exotic Flower-Making and the Cubs and Chimps dance workshops. Making sure not to miss out on the main stage with Ghanaian super stars Adesa, the Mexican Folkloric Dance Company, Sambarrada and Mexico’s Don Fallo Figueroa.
Or head up to a new festival event in Clarinda Park, Feast Americana in celebration of the quintessential American style country fair. Showcasing a sumptuous range of traditional food, dance shows, arts and crafts and on stage have a listen to Mirenda Rosenburg and Prison Love for bluegrass and country music.
Continuing on down from the People’s Park is Newtownsmith and Sunday’s Main Stage serves up heavenly gospel vocals and Eastern beats. Babylon Circus’ infusion of Balkan gypsy music, French chanson, Algerian rai and Moroccan Gnawa will electrify audiences while cultural ambassadors the Dhoad Gypsies of Rajasthan perform traditional Rajasthani folk tunes with a spectacular dancer and fakir. Headlining this stage is Oumou Sangare with her soaring and sensuous range and rhythms.
If you’re hungry, the International Food Traders, Mela Market and Feast Americana Food Traders… the ideal way to satisfy hard-working festival appetites!
